I feel ya, how long have you been there? You don’t owe it to anyone to stay there a year. I’d start looking on the side ASAP with a goal to be out in a year. No employer will hold that against you if you word it right in interviews.
You can’t really think and do great work if you are working such long hours.
Move on. Your health comes first, and a bad fit usually won’t get better over time. Staying could have the effect of making you look like a less desirable candidate over time as you interview while feeling broken by your current job.
Def move on if your health is suffering. But first see if there’s a way not to work 60h/w - ie do god enough work, care less, prioritize your personal life after you’ve put in your 40h? Been there so I know that’s easier said than done but I will say that at some point I seemed to figure out the “good enough” formula and it honestly helped.
What you’re good at can kill you in the end, and for many strategists, we’re good at sticking with a problem for too long, pursuing research into dead end after dead end. Try outlining the minimum number of pages and how much evidence you need for your story. It will feel horrible at first but think of it as a Minimum Viable Product. You can always get deeper later but sometimes the answer is right there at the surface of your consciousness.
Health is #1. Once you’re mental/physical health is in the toilet it’s hard to recover
60 hr weeks are considered a lot? Not trying to be an ass, just curious. I think 80hr weeks are the norm. Have I been hoodwinked? Not working 8am - 12am seemed like a blessing when I left a gig in Cali. That gig we had to work sat/ sun and only had a few hrs on wed off. But, def 80 hr weeks after that were always the norm. Was in nyc.
I feel like you’ve been hoodwinked. I know a lot of people who work 80 hr weeks when needed, but not a lot of people who work them as a norm. Unless they work in new business. Depending on the fee structure of your account, effectively doubling your billing for a client can sometimes lead to overburn that hurts the financial future For the rest of the year. Unless they are putting you on incremental projects, at which point your time is being devalued we just assuming you will continue to work until you drop.
