The causes are both genetic and environmental. Obesity, sun exposure, and exposure to tobacco smoke or pesticides can all be contributing factors. Protecting pets from those environmental contributors can help, but genetics can also impact them. It is heartbreaking to see so many pets diagnosed with cancer. I've been a vet for a long time, and I'm diagnosing many more than I used to.
There are more environmental toxins now than there have ever been! Also more pets - so, we're going to see more of every kind of diagnosis, technically, but the cancer diagnoses have been higher than expected at our hospital lately too.
I think it's also got to be something to do with how much more processed pet food is nowadays too. It makes me so worried about all of our furry friends. :(
There could be a lot of risk factors. But the environment is the biggest factor based on the cases I've handled so far.
Advise you pet owners to invest in better pet food. The same way that human food is becoming more processed so is pet food. It's sad to see honestly
