We all have sub-par health insurance. You either buy directly from the insurance companies or Exchanges. Both suck and are extremely expensive. Your question is properly the one most often asked. You’d need to decide if your freedom is worth the sacrifices.

“Frustration” doesn’t cut it! It’s an abomination.
The health insurance will always suck. It doesn’t get better over time. Just more expensive. I am yet to remember the last time my premium didn’t go up year after year.
Unless you have chronic health problems go with the high deductible… in CNY it’s about $540 a month single, $900 couple, $1300 family. The sock away the max in the HSA. Save money on taxes and have the money for the deductible when you need it. Think about it… $300k gross… as an independent you keep 90%. Vs having health care for $4k instead of $14k.
I’m independent and I put my insurance through Paychex and it’s fairly reasonable. Depending on if you plan to have staff you could reach out to a small group independent insurance agent to shop the market for you. I think the minimum is 3 staff including yourself and they don’t need to all take it, just be eligible. There are also TAMP relationships that you can buy it through or through associations like NAIFA. Check all your options.
Check out Insperity. They add small businesses into their buying group for health care.
