This ^. Coming from someone who experienced the steep penalty of interest capitalization, i wish i was warned about the severity of its impact and how much it ultimately/truly costs. Make payments to avoid interest capitalization like your hair is on fire.
I’ve been there, and it’s tough. First, see if you can switch to an income-driven repayment plan—it can lower payments or pause them without interest piling up as fast. Also, call your loan servicer to explore forbearance or deferment options. They were very accommodating of me the last time I had to call and ask for help.
