I’m lateraling to new firm. Note: I’ve already accepted. It’s taken months for the process due to the firm having different needs and then some conflict issues that kept me from making the jump for a while. It’s been a few months since their billable year started, and I want to renegotiate my offer to include some kind of prorated bonus hours or a signing bonus. However, I do not want to give up even a fraction of the bonus, as any of you could understand. How should I deal with this?

At the absolute minimum, Pro rated hours = pro rated bonus

This is scary. Any thoughts why it took so long for conflicts?

Most biglaw firms will automatically prorate hours and bonus. This is a weird one to think you have to go to the mat for. And yes, if you kill it with hours, your bonus may not be prorated...but how hard do you want to work?

Just got the call from a recruiter that they won’t be moving forward with my application after reviewing my take-home writing assignment. I was very proud of what I submitted, and know it was great quality and up to industry standards given I review/write this type of document quite frequently. They gave me good feedback on it, and I have it in the back of my mind that they are using applicants from consulting as free labor. Anyone else feel this way about interview take-home assignments??

Im a bit burned out now and I would love to take a long break. I'm hoping I can take a break (2 months) between the transition but is this a good reason to move though? Would you move in my situation? Im sure there will be a signing bonus.

I’m a 9th year in a mostly litigation-based practice group at a one-tier partnership firm. My group’s billable hours have been low the last few years, so making partner will be nearly impossible, and a counsel position is not viable long-term in my group. What’s the best option here if partnership is the ultimate goal? Try to get a NEP/counsel position at another firm, which is likely difficult in my market, or offer to take a class cut by a few years?
