I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

Marriott
Ritz is part of Marriott rewards. Marriott is Definitely the best option and they treat you well
^Yes you earn more reward points by $ spend. You earn elite status by nights stayed at the hotel. Pick one hotel chain to maximize obtain elite status and stay at most expensive property possible to earn most reward points. My preference is SPG, however, now that SPG is part of Marriott, best to choose Marriott as you will have all Marriott, SPG hotels and Ritz Carltons to choose from
... all are in policy. I’ve tried reading The Points Guy, but since I’m not actually paying for the rooms, I wonder which hotel would give me the best rewards for my stays
Jus curious: Marriott because it’s the largest or because it has the best rewards or something?
Agree with marriott
Marriott. Most properties and rewards program is lucrative. Also u will find most of your coworkers will also be Marriott loyal.
Stay at ritz, use membership at Marriott for point earning. Let me guess - St Louis or Tyson’s?
Go with the most expensive that’s in policy. Most points are based on $ spend. Probably the ritz
As for locations, it's a regional thing. I think Hilton is more in the south, and Marriott is more up north. I think Hilton Diamond makes it easier to earn free nights than Marriott Platinum. Diamond gives 100% bonus, but Platinum gives 75%. And I think Hilton hotel are generally fewer points per night to redeem, unless you're looking in a high demand area.
I’ve been happy with Hilton. I’ve had diamond status for two years now, so the points accumulate pretty quickly. I’ve earned 60,000 points in a single week before. For context, you can get a free night at a lower end place for around 20,000 points. So in one week I earned three free nights. Not bad
It's more consistency. Pick a hotel you like and just stay with that chain. That will give you the beat perks.
Marriott seems to be most popular - especially now that it’s combined with SPG. Ritz is part of SPG.
At EY4 (or anyone) - So the points are based on dollars spent, not just the number of nights stayed? So if the Ritz is $50 more per night than the other, that would earn points faster?
OP. It depends on how you plan to use those points later. Hilton and Marriott have the largest footprint. Personally I hop between Marriott and Hilton as those give me the best coverage for when i vacation.
Hilton is great for resorts (outside the US) while Marriott is good for everything else.
Hyatt is a good program but their footprint is limited. Good option for resorts (outside the US).
As for redemption of points value it's Hyatt > Marriott > Hilton.
OP points are directly tied to how much you pay on eligible charges (room rate, food billed to room etc.). You can find the earning rates on the elite member benefits page of each hotel chain. General rule of thumb for hotels (imo) "the faster it is to earn the points, the more points you need for a free night".
I travel for M&D audits. The majority of these audits are in smaller towns across the country and consistently have a Hilton. Hilton seems to be everywhere. If you are mostly in big cities, I’d go with Marriott.
It depends on how you plan to use them. I stay mostly at Hilton because my next vacation spot had poor Marriott options (too far from where I wanted to be).
