I’m new to the whole zoom meeting thing for work. For remote days I’m supposed to have my camera on. Are there things i shouldn’t be doing while i have to be on camera? Sometimes i need to do something around my apartment or make/eat food. Just want to make sure i don’t get in trouble.

Do not do anything other than working and having a drink of water/coffee on camera.

Do not do chores or anything that would lead your manager to believe you are not dedicating your workday to work. So no laundry, cooking, etc. on camera.

And if you have a lunch meeting or something, typically most people just turn off their camera and mute themselves so people don't see them eating. You can just tell your team that and when you're done, turn your camera back on.

Ah ok I notice some go off camera when eating, i just assumed its because they’re self conscious. We eat in meetings in the office frequently so it never crossed my mind as a manners thing. The things they don’t teach in portfolio school 😅

Really depends on how much of a dick your agency/office is about it, but the common sense thing is that it's fine to turn your camera off if you need to go to the bathroom or take a personal call or whatever.

The only reason I care if people have their cameras on is because it's annoying af having a conversation with a black square and not being able to see facial expressions.

Do it before or after meeting. Unless you’re in an agency learning camera can be off. Also, follow what other coworkers do. Most meetings are scheduled.

Follow others lead. But if everyone else is on camera, be on camera unless you have a valid reason like eating. Definitely be on camera with leadership.

My natural instinct is to assume rejection if I have conflict with a partner or don’t think my feelings are reciprocated. I’ll try to bring it up with them, but I’ll say “if you want to end this feel free” so it doesn’t hurt me (and they can say what they really mean instead of sugarcoating). How do you deal with imposter syndrome? I'm a new therapist and I work with a bunch of women who have been doing this for ages. If an employee mentions something disparaging or accusatory about their manager during an exit interview, how would you handle? What happens if what the employee said is slanderous and a “he said/she said” situation? I.e. employee claimed the manager made a disparaging remark about an item of clothing being worn by someone in accordance with their beliefs. If you opt to share the feedback with the manager, would the manager have a legal case against the company or former employee?
