I’m taking a new position and feel sad about leaving my current company, as it was my first job out of college. I’ve never resigned before, any advice or tips? Thank you!

Say thank you. Send a last day email, share what you loved, and acknowledge that the job served you just as well as you served it. It’s okay to say thank you and move on.

Thank you!! I’m nervous about it

Keep it to yourself until you tell your boss. Do it on a call not via email. If you think they’ll counter offer, know what it would take for you to stay going into that call (salary, promotion expectations, etc.). Most importantly, leave on the most positive note possible with everyone you’ve worked with. Send thank you notes to anyone who has supervised or mentored you. Identify who you might ask for a letter of recommendation or to be a reference down the road, add them on LinkedIn, get their personal emails and maintain the relationship through the years. Good luck in your next gig!

I think in most cases companies in the US appreciate the two weeks notice to, as you mention, allow the employee to transition off (as well as handle administrative details, vet replacements, etc.). In some cases for legal reasons they might terminate the contract sooner, like if you’re going to a competitor, but I havent seen this often. But if you’re in good standing with your company, there is a business need and you have the time, you can even offer more than 2 weeks after you give your notice.

Get resignation draft ready and don’t send until you talk to them on the phone / video. Then CC HR on the supervisor note or send directly to HR at the same time. Figure out what your last day will be - and give ten business days starting clock when you send note.

Write thank you notes (brief - great working with you, learning here has been a fantastic opportunity, I could not have asked for a better place and colleagues to weather these strange challenging times with). People appreciate it - heads of other departments, assistants you talk to every day - it’s not just head honchos who appreciate a nice note. CC your personal email so they can reach out.

Then you’ll get a job offer from them in 6 years when they are somewhere else and remember you leaving on a good note ! Good luck !!!!

Take time between jobs if you can !

Thanks you!! I love the idea of thank you notes. I’m going to miss everyone!

I make playlists every time. Need that good energy. Good luck!

Thanks!!

Make a clear plan for delegating any work you’re leaving behind, and make sure external points of contact (upper management) is aware of who should be doing what after you leave. If something falls through the cracks, the last thing you want is to be thrown under the bus since you’re not present to defend yourself.

I'm a brand new attorney (passed the Feb 2021 bar) who started an in-house counsel position a few months ago (where my focus is negotiating agreements for the sale of my company's software). I was a contracts manager on an in-house team for 4 years prior, which is why I was able to go straight in-house. I'm entirely skipping out on firm life, which feels both good and bad. Is there anything I should think about getting experience in? How should I go about making sure I am seeing enough things?

Applying to roles within the same federal agency. I know you need one year within the probationary period, but can I apply to a higher GS level? For example, if I'm GS 9, receive a promotion to GS 11 at the end of probation, would i be able to apply to GS 13 roles if I'm qualified? Tried researching this for hours but only found info on applying to other agencies.

I recently interviewed with Natwest and I got confirmation that they wanted to offer a role. Salary negotiations were started. However, now I got an email from the hiring manager that hiring for my role has been paused due to the ongoing cost of living crisis. He expects to resume the hiring for the role in Q1 '23 and would resume the process then. So is it the end? Honestly, I don't expect him to come back. But what do you think?

Is is better to maintain connections w the junior team and how should I go about it w senior management? This is for general networking not that I’m trying to hop to a PE/other org immediately. TIA!

Hi all, I have about 7 years of professional experience but only one year as a Customer Success Manager. I work on mid market accounts currently. I love my job, but would prefer to support a more robust platform that will allow me to add more value for my customers.

I’d appreciate your thoughts on what compensation you might expect for a CSM transitioning to a new company with one year of experience.

To clarify, I don’t have an offer yet, I’m just looking to make a move.

Thank you!
