Lol I have negative 6 months saved up
Havent been laid off - but I imagine a lot of that equation is how much you’re willing to take any job, vs the right job or what kind of pay cut you’re willing to accept. I imagine the answer will vary widely based on that. What I saw with friends in ‘08 is some found better, higher paying jobs right away (one went to FB and made a killing and met his wife - couldn’t have worked out better). Some it took a year or two before they found a good job. Average was probably 6-9 months - but those people weren’t really willing to compromise at the beginning (some ended up compromising later). When I left a job willingly without another lined up, took me 4 weeks to get several offers, and 7 months to get the job I wanted.
I was laid off in 2008. It took me 9 months to find another job. But I would hope it doesn’t take ask long with consulting on the resume.
Back in 2008- took me 6 months and 4 days to find a new job
4 months in 2008, had about a year of work experience and wasn’t overly picky about my next job
It took me two months in 2002, but I probably had an easier than average time with it. I went to a competing firm (PwC -> Deloitte) and knew a Principal very well who had gone from PwC to Deloitte as a direct admit Principal, and it was pretty much a rubber stamp interview process.
I think as a general rule, if you treat the job search as a full time job, six months should be enough for levels up to Manager. SM and Director you might extend that to 9-12 months.
Depends when you get hit. I got hit in 2007 over the holidays. I had 2 offers and a 3rd hot lead by Feb, no one hires over Christmas.
There were 3 more rounds of layoffs in 2008 and each one took much longer to recover their lives then the round before. Many of the last group hit were out a long time. It took me 5 years to get back to my 2007 salary but now I make a lot more.
It really sucked getting layed off but getting hit early put me on the street when there will still jobs.
It took me 2 years to find a job in 2009. I had 100k saved up and it went pretty quickly in the two years I was looking
Back in 2008, got laid off in May and started new job in September
