M4, I think it’s 60 days from notice to last day or 60 days severance, but I could definitely be wrong on that timeline. Either way, it isn’t some benevolent action on his part. He’s already got lawsuits over failure to comply with WARN.

Lol. I've been laid off with no severence before and another time with 2 weeks severence. I think a lot of folks need to realize how lucky they are compared to others.

3 months isn't generosity it is a legal requirement. They are bound by the WARN act.

They have to give 90 days notice of layoffs.
To cover their backs, they don't want to let these people continue to access any systems so, the 3 month garden leave is the logical choice. It's not benevolent.

Lots of idiots talking about traveling and vacation. As someone whose been laid off before let me say everyone’s view will be different, but don’t impose your weird views on this situation. That being said, I was at my job for 5 years and received 6 month pay severance which was good and something I could actually work with. 3 months pay in this economy? Meh
You have low standards. That’s obvious. Also, it’s different if they have a family or other obligations. But since you’re happy for the crumbs you can have someone take your place at your company and you can be the one laid off. It’s a good deal for that person and your company.

What SS said. Twitter people filed a class action on Thursday citing the 60-day notice rule in California law. So this is most likely a CYA for that.

I don’t like Elon but that’s pretty solid deal - only problem would be finding another job which is easier at junior level but gets way harder for senior executives.. I have seen people getting laid off on the same day with no severance if no 3 plus yoe at the company!

It’s not like companies are hiring during the holidays… I’d polish off my resume and submit a few applications to get myself in the job search mindset then head off to south east Asia for a few weeks lol

How about severance benefits?
I wonder if cash bonuses are paid in Jan and severance includes some bonuses. If they have Jan refreshers it’ll hit but not very at all most likely.

The details are going to matter. Does the severance above 60 days from WARN Act get cut if you accept other employment since it's worded you are still employed? Do you have to resign to take another job since the employment contract likely forbids other employment?
Having access to your machine blocked with no warning sucks. Contacts for finding employment are likely in people's company emails, which are unreachable.
