Me…I feel dumber because we make pretty PowerPoint and say a whole lot of nothing in those slides - it’s just fluff
Hence it is important to balance strategy with some execution. Only then rubber meets the road. Ideal scenario, create strategy, create proof of concepts, kick start implementation and hand it over core tech
You misunderstand the goal of strategy consulting. You make decks with fluff, repeat and repackage the content, and then perform the jedi mind trick equivalent of "these are the deliverables you want to pay us for".
Very few of the above posts are from people with strategy consulting experience
Nah, I’ve noticed software > brains when needing to do any math that actually matters. Imo mental math at our level is great as a parkour trick or gut check but modelling and working with expert analytics folks is why people actually buy our services.
Well there’s that and the fact that business school math is wildly easy in the grand scheme of mathematics so it isn’t hard to practice “for fun” throughout the day to keep sharp if it’s bothering you.
My $0.02!
I think this is a problem in your team. I'm an analyst just promoted to consultant and I ABSOLUTELY get the chance to storyboard, design strategy and make major contributions. The difference is that while doing it, I take a stab or pass, then we review and discuss and get feedback, then I update
So I just get more guidance while doing those things. If they don't give you the chance to do it you won't ever become a pro at it which will hurt you later. Have you been vocal about wanting to properly own pieces of the work?
If you're as great as you think you are and your team is as stellar as you think it is, then you would be given the opportunity to actually strategize. So as I'm saying
This is a problem with your team or your company culture, or maybe people just disrespect you because you're too big for your boots and can't play nicely in the sandbox.
Second of all, at least in my culture and my context the projects I do have ethics. Try "how to steal a country" or many other ethical MBB disasters before you come preaching to me about the fact that you're so amazing, not to mention the fact that many of your staff are on a fast track to therapy.
Lastly, you're making a lot of assumptions based on my company name. Here's an idea - why not actually have a open mind and realise that you're not only completely lacking in context and have no idea what I do, where I do it or what other experience I have, you're also close minded and rude.
No. I’m just gaining different ones. Now I have to analyze staffing numbers for teams, understand financial goals and strategize how to reach them, etc. I want to move to the top of the chain and when I look at CEOs, they are definitely not doing low level technical work. They are paid to think, strategize, and make (hopefully data driven) decisions which can impact major groups of people and environments.
