If you love the firm and team, I would give it a little more time. Responsibilities will come your way and you’ll learn from them.
If you lateral now, they’ll mostly bring you in for an entry level again. Which means you’ll have to spend another year at the same level, be patient and build new relationship and trust before they hand your major responsibilities. It’s unlikely you’ll get going from day 1 at the new firm.
Assuming you’re staff 2 now, if I were you, I’d wait 1 more year until I get senior promotion and then look at options both internally and externally. My 2c
Good luck to both! Feel free to DM me or reach out to the FB community if you need any help or advice
I don't get this mentality. 1 and 2 years of experience makes people feel 'pigeonholed' and 'not getting the experience I want'. Really? I went to EY with as a S3 with 6 years of experience and I still got put on projects I wasn't thrilled about or knew much about but still gave it my best and got good reviews. Not sure where this sense of entitlement comes from at such an early stage of the career
OP all the best to you. Hope things work out for you. EY2, yes I left but for entirely different reasons than what I posted about. And a lot of legacy EY people I knew have also left for similar reasons as mine. I still respect EY for what I learned there and always will.
I’m in the same boat. I don’t think I’m developing the skills needed for the roles I want. Additionally, I’m consistently being backfilled for projects in roles that don’t interest me. Feel so pigeonholed even as a junior consultant with 1.5YOE. Happy to forgo the year of experience just to start over but can’t even seem to find those opportunities.
OP and C1 I was in same boat. try to switch internally or keep applying for entry level at other companies if you are ok starting over. internal transfers can be done!
Thank you!
I've been networking and may have found a spot within the firm that may fit me a little better if I can get through the door. In case that doesn't happen, I'm just trying to keep my options open to make sure I'm maximizing my potential.
I assume others may have felt like this before in a similar situation. Any advice? Many people in and outside my firm have advised me to jump from my current situation to another firm and perhaps boomerang at some point.
I love the firm, the teams, and the people, but feel I'm not on the best growth path right now.
