I’ve been a consultant for 10 years (at 3 different firms) and I’ve always dreaded case interviews! The only thing that helped me get out of that frame of mind is live practice. When I did my interviews for Bain a couple of years ago I must’ve done 30+ live cases until I got to a point where I felt confident that I can do any case they throw at me. So my advice is just practice practice practice. I was lucky that my partner is an ex-consultant so I could do as many live cases as I wanted but that’s obviously not the case for everyone so try to leverage your network as much as you can and use resources like preplounge!
Very encouraging to hear, thanks!! :)
I was experiencing the same issue, and 2 yrs after finally landed at bcg with this trick
Just imagine you’re having brainstorming session with your manager instead of facing a formal intv, it helps you to be more relax and engaging to solve the case
Just relax and dont be a robot while solving a case
Goodluck
Thanks for the advice!! :)
Hi,
You don’t have to dread them.
I have a background in arts and language.
I am not concerned on frameworks.
Remain MECE, remeber to take altitude to avoid short view.
For quantitative, keeping calculation bases is a must, rounding can help, calculus is not that hard.
I try to bring simplicity and astute calculus into play.
Sometimes, you don’t need calcules at all.
Just looking at a table chart and underlining highs can be the way to so it and to give the proper answer.
Thanks for the tip! :)
Practice makes perfect! And builds confidence. Would suggest to do more, 10 doesn't sound like a lot to me.
I did ~60 cases the first time I applied (rejected due to behavioral) and another ~30 the second time. You bet there's nothing exciting or scary anymore at that point. In fact they got a bit boring toward the end!
Haha fair enough! Will keep practicing!
