Even if you get an exception be ready for a bit of an exodus at your new agency. It’s been happening here because of mandated RTO. Before the return, since the return and still happening.
This feels like one of the first things all candidates and recruiters should be clarifying on the first screening call moving forward, especially if there an expectation of any in-person office time
Right it’s the first thing I ask before even launching into my work history. Which is why I haven’t heard back from a few places lol

Agencies are returning - some have and many others are in January. You can’t simply assume a position is remote at this point unless explicitly stated.

Yeah I’m def pro WFH but I would never just assume a new gig is indefinitely WFH, and if you have no intention of being back in NYC you need to let them know asap and probs take it off your resume
Do you need this new job badly? There is some RTO happening but this doesn’t feel awesome to me, I would look for other places that will be a life improvement as opposed to downside. The hiring market is on fire right now.

I would say take care of this on the upfront. If you don’t want to be in an office then clear that up right away. I am surprised at the amount of agencies that are still holding on to this way of working BUT don’t settle. It’s a new day and the hiring marketing is on fire right now. Get what you want!
I make sure to understand from our recruiting team where a candidate sits with remote preferences. I am open to all but want to know what the candidate’s expectations are before we meet. It’s only fair to everyone involved.
