I’ve been members at both la fitness and 24 hr fitness and much prefer 24hr. Mine is very quiet (manhattan beach), machines are good (I only do weights mind you) and the people are good.
LA fitness is overrun with teenagers in groups hogging machines, tiktoking and messing around on their phones. The people there are just generally more ignorant and disrespectful with their gym etiquette. I’m sure equinox is great tho, I just can’t stomach the price given all
I do is lift weights. 50lb weighs the same no matter the cost 🤷🏻♂️
Equinox is totally worth it if you go to the gym a lot. It’s cleaner, less crowded, and has better amenities. However, some of them are better than others. I used to have a multi-gym membership and tried out a number of Equinox gyms across LA and they are definitely not the same caliber everywhere.
But CC is often crowded.
Depends how often you go. I personally love it and it makes me look forward to going to the gym. I never wait for anything, machines and weights are top notch, and the locker rooms are amazing. Given I don’t go to classes very often, it might not be worth the full price tag tho (pwc subsidizes).
Make sure the hours for your location are good. Equinox closes earlier than most other gyms I’ve belonged to in LA which can be annoying.
Thanks for the insights!
Pro Tip: most people don't pay full price for a membership. See if there's a discount you can get from your company or from a friends. My friend worked at Bloomberg and she was able to recommend me to an equinox gym who then gave me a discount.
Definitely going to try an find some type of discount if I end up trying it out
I pay $240 a month for Equinox Pasadena, and honestly, it only feels worth it if you actually use the classes, steam room, and showers. The products they have in the showers can be a little drying, so I usually bring my own, but they’re better than nothing if you forget.
Parking is easy since they validate, which makes it less of a hassle. I like that it’s not crowded and people don’t bother you while you’re working out, it actually feels kind of peaceful.
Personal training and Pilates are way too expensive for me, but I use the gym kind of like a day spa. I work out, hang out in the steam room, and sometimes just relax with the smell of eucalyptus oil.
If you don’t take advantage of the amenities, it’s a waste of money, but for me, it’s worth it for the combination of workout + chill time.
You can use my link to join and they will waive the initiation fee and give you a $150 credit to the store or to apply against a future monthly fee, and if you have any issues, message me. It helps me too cuz I get a credit, but either way you shouldn’t pay the initiation fee because there’s usually a way to get it waived so don’t pay it:

Yeah it’s worth it for sure
