Is it hard to get into big law from a part time program?

Yes but I’ve seen it done

Note that already the comments are confusing potentially three separate questions here: 1. Is it hard? 2. Is it hardER than an equivalent full-time program and 3. Is it possible?

1. Yes it is definitely hard in any objective sense because of the small handful of schools at the very top for which getting BigLaw isn’t hard (ie T14s with a 70%+ BL+FC%), none of them have part time programs. The highest ranked part time program is Georgetown, which is a great school but not so great that you’d call getting BigLaw not “hard.”

2. Common wisdom is that yes, it is hardER to get BigLaw from a part time program than full time. It’s difficult to say for sure because school’s don’t generally break out part time vs full time employment stats, but most people agree that it’s harder due to some combination of the timing not mixing well with BigLaw hiring timelines and a perception that firms think of part time programs as being somehow lesser.

3. Of course it’s still possible, probably even from low ranked programs. But that’s very different from whether your chances are good or whether it would be better to enroll in a full time program. You’ll see lots of anecdotes about how someone did it from such a program, or have friends who did, but none of this actually answers the first two questions above. Don’t let a few random examples give you the wrong impression, do your research into the actual employment stats of the school and get an objective, population-wide, realistic assessment of your chances.

No I've seen it done at Fordham plenty of times.

My spouse did it, but she had good grades (top 25 or 30%) and significant experience as a paralegal and a compliance professional.

Does anyone have resources on understanding whether/how legal advocacy matters, how it actually achieves what it purports to achieve? Been doing this nearly 5 years now and just really don’t see how all the effort is worth it. I don’t get the sense that outcomes are impacted by skill level, work quality, time spent. Seems you can make your client’s case worse (e.g., by missing a deadline or some egregious error), but that’s about it. So, practice of law feels quite pointless. What am I missing?

I started a few new business ( with debt) this year, and because the way my taxes looked with other losses it looks like I didn't make a ton of money. Now my credit dropped from 800 to 720 and I'm having trouble getting credit. Despite having a perfect payment history and fully able to cover all liabilities. Any way to get the credit up. If I pay off my liabilities then my credit history gets shot with young accounts. What's the best way to handle this?

This post is an alert message for anyone joining the Johnson & Johnson EMEA account for SAP & had Rakesh Sharma for their Manager round.

He is nothing less than a con man & will promise you a lot to make you join the account. After that he will put you in testing projects. If you ask for a release, he will either not release you or release with a very bad rating and influence other project managers to not take you into their projects.

You will be left with no choice other than leaving TCS.

Curious as to how many deals at once is typical for a first year associate to take on (M&A, mostly private equity clients). Deal size is lower middle market and I’ve worked on deals ranging from $1-$110M. 2 deals at once is plenty for me, but it seems like my peers are able to take on more than that at once and still do fine. Maybe I’m just a slow learner/out of my league at the big law firm I’m at.

So I had 3 deals scheduled to either close end of May or mid June which were all pushed to end of June/beginning of July. Which is when I have my first vacation planned for over a year (I take 0 time off). My whole family is flying up and we’re renting a cabin near me. What do I do? I’m running one of the deals, semi running the other one and not doing much leading on the other one. Note: I was supposed to not be running any of these. Do I find a back up first or tell the partners first?
