Is it possible to work 1-2 years as a junior associate at a super boutique doing a combination of fraud/abuse and transactional work in the healthcare space and then lateral to biglaw to practice securities law? I’m happy doing health law, but it’s not what I want to do long term and I worry the longer I stay in that space, the harder it will be switch to the kind of law I truly want to build a career in.

The earlier you switch, the better. If you know where you want to be, do it now. Trust me, it’ll just get harder to switch the longer you wait.

Agree. The longer you wait, the harder it is to switch.

Also if you went to a top 50 law school and have great grades, the transition will be easier. Big law will also take a look at smart people but I would move early in your career.

I agree with the prior commentators. The sooner you make the transition, the better. It will not get any easier. It's tough to move to an area where you don't have any experience. Suggest you think about leveraging your healthcare knowledge and expertise into the securities area. Healthcare securities work should be a hot area for the foreseeable future. Now is the time. If the Big Law firms are not interested and you desperately want to move into securities work, reach out to midsize firms and boutiques. As usual, your relationships will be key to making a successful move. Good luck.

Hey friends! So I left PwC (risk assurance, did a bit of consulting) about 4 years ago for industry, and have been working in supply chain ever since for a major retailer. Recently, a recruiter from Protiviti reached out to talk to me about open roles in supply chain consulting, and I’m trying to decide if this would be a good move or not. I know it wouldn’t be quite the same as the hours as big 4, but I don’t know enough to be sure if it’s the right fit. Any advice?

I’m a junior attorney, and my goal is to work in-house for a professional sports team (preferably an NBA, MLB or NFL team) or a record label, but of course these positions are highly-coveted. I started down the traditional path of working in biglaw (NYC) to receive the necessary training and experience while also trying to build relationships. However, biglaw really isn’t for me, and I’m exploring regional firms in Boston. Is it still possible to break into the sports/ent. industry? Any advice?
