Layoffs at Walmart corporate 😬😬
I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

I’d save my ask of a favor from my colleagues for a referral or intro to a connection. I recruit for my small firm and have never noticed the endorsements.
However, should you get laid off, peruse your colleagues’ connections and ask for an intro to someone you don’t know. More powerful and direct.
I've been asked several times. Best to ask people you worked directly with, even if for a short term project. Write a message telling them that you are working on improving your LinkedIn profile to better reflect your role, remind them of the project you worked together on, and politely ask if they could endorse you for a couple skills related to that work.

One of my interns asked for skill endorsements in his last week, sending an email to a bunch of team members with nearly 30 skills he wanted endorsements for. The team elected to endorse him for things like heavy equipment operation, dancing, and my favorite, animal husbandry. He did join full time but didn’t ask again.
No harm asking but don’t expect too much impact. Would only help.
If you’re cold calling so to speak don’t bother. If you ask friends and coworkers you wouldn’t mind having coffee breaks with, they won’t see it as a favor at all
The way I’ve gathered my endorsements is by first endorsing other people I know well enough. At least in my younger age group there’s an #endorse4endorse mentality, so if you’re looking for numbers start with your peers en masse and hopefully enough will return the favor. Beforehand, manually order the 3 “Top Skills” on your profile so that you don’t start accumulating endorsements for something useless like Microsoft Office or Time Management
