Is LinkedIn still critical to have in today’s business world? I don’t have any other social media accounts and would like to be completely rogue. I know there are obvious networking benefits… but…. If you have a strong network in real life…. Is it a must?

I see it as a very low risk potentially high reward proposition. I have a LI account populated with all my current details, and pop in on occasion to see what notifications I have. I'll browse the feed every once in a while, but usually don't come across much that I care to see. I could very well never go on there, but curiosity and boredom keep me taking a look every once in a while. Fast forward to me needing to find a new job, and not long after I changed my status to "open to new opportunities" I got pinged by a recruiter that eventually connected me with IBM HR.

You may not be looking now, but you never know what the future holds.

like

You could change the settings for only connections could view your entire profile.

like

It would be a very bad choice not to have one.

like

Do you have personal contact info for everyone in your network? If not LI is gonna be pretty clutch.

like

Many people regularly have recruiters reach out to them on LinkedIn. Some of these opportunities are unlisted publicly or great companies you never heard of. If you weren’t on LinkedIn you could be missing out on a great opportunity.

Also I do hour long expert consultations for $500/hr. The expert research firms find me on LinkedIn.

LinkedIn is an incredible tool.

I haven’t had a LinkedIn in 3 years.
I got a new job recently by reaching out to an old manager and increased my comp significantly. I personally know the people I network with

If people don’t know what you do how on earth would they know what you can do for them. Free country do what you want but just know that you are closing a plethora of doors you will never even know about.

For those of you who made the switch to in house/corporate law, what was your experience like? Did you have to take a lower position to gain the experience or were you able to argue that your soft skills were transferable to in house? Can anyone help me evaluate whether I should take an exit opportunity. Currently in big 4 (fsrm) and have the opportunity to join a f250 payments firms internal strategy division. They report directly to the c-suite and said they mainly focus on strategy or M&A and don’t do implementation. The team seems really nice but I’m just worried about leaving consulting and leaving the accelerated progression. Would love some insights as I’m fairly lost on what to decide. Thanks!

Graduated in 2020, wanted to be a graphic designer, took a job at a startup in a social media role. The boss called me the "r" word for not handling entire 13-ish accounts roster well by myself. I quit. Found a role as social media specialist. Realized (again) that I hate social media. Moved to in-house mktg manager, only to be a glorified graphic designer / someone to call the city to cut down trees. I job hopped too much, I feel my portfolio is empty. How do I restart again? I feel defeated.

Newly minted consultant here looking for financial advice.

So I just moved to consulting after B school, and It's more money than I've made my entire life. After paying for rent and living expenses, I have 6000$ left over every month. My student loan payments are about 1200/month at 7% interest. I still owe another 95K on my loan. I have the option to pay more every month and reduce my overall interest paid.
Currently I put about 3000 towards my loan and 3000 towards my savings. Cont'd...
