Anyone have experience as a cost accountant?
Does anyone have any insight into accounting roles at Amazon, particularly in the Arlington/DC area? An Amazon recruiter reached out about accounting roles, but the posts in this bowl are about Seattle. Trying to decide if the culture/wlb/pay is even worth looking into since it sounds like the interview process is intense. Base pay seemed pretty low in other posts, but they were a year old and for Seattle.

I dont know if it’s the only way but it’s probably the easier way.
I’d think if you wanted to negotiate with current company that you have to come with facts and data supporting the raise. So have you cut cost, improved cash flow, streamlined processes that save time, etc. you could maybe provide going rate for your role at competitors. You have to show you are worth it to them to pay you more.
Sometimes it’s suggested to get a higher offer elsewhere and ask current to match. This could be risky. They may not match and then you could be called on your bluff. Would you leave if they didn’t? If you stayed and they didn’t give you a raise then they may not take you seriously about negotiating in the future.
You could try to bring the topic up by asking about upward mobility and increased responsibility that reflect increase pay with your manager. Ask about other roles within the company that you could pivot to. You may not want to make money seem like your main focus if you go this route. Less with wanting to gain more exposure and experience and then you could ask if there is a standard salary adjustment when moving internally.
Also, if people are leaving from my team, can I use that as leverage to ask for more? If I’m making $80k what’s a good amount to ask for in a raise if I’m taking on a bit more responsibility?
