Same here. I also don't buy "you'll be promoted in a very short time" promises anymore. These are hardly decisions taken by the people promising it.
From what I see, compensation rarely stops mattering. It just stops being the only thing. Mid career is exactly when pay is often the top priority and that is normal. Later on, some people start weighing scope, impact, flexibility, leadership quality, and long term growth just as much. It is less about a level and more about life stage and goals changing.
Interesting! I think it still boils down to compensation in a way, but being more strategic about it? Once you are at an advanced stage, you know that a well paid rabbit hole is going to be worse than an medium-highly paid open to opportunities position? Is that so?
