Is there a point when it’s too early to go in-house? I have about 1.5 years agency experience and interviewing for a great in-house job, but nervous that it’ll hinder future opportunities.

No. This whole idea of “too early” “need more agency experience” is an outdated notion...especially when that experience includes being laid off multiple times.

I went in house around the same time and re-entered an agency afterwards - not too soon as long as you build your portfolio in-house.

How would going in-house hinder future opportunities? I started in-house out of college and moved into agency. I didn't feel like there was any hindrance when job searching.

like

I've personally never seen that. And either way, as long as you're doing good work, theres beneficial things you learn in house that you'll never learn in an agency.

Working in an agency setting gives you diversity of experience. It helps further define your style and and approach to creative assets. The more exposure you get the more refined you’ll be for an in house gig. Note: I worked agency side for 5 years before going on house.

Many good agencies realize they need talent from everywhere. You can start client and go agency and vice versa. I've moved between them a couple of times. But it is not always guaranteed to be a good fit, so be careful to understand the role you are considering and how you want your story to go. Consider the team, too. If you move jobs to work for one leader, will you still like working for other leaders in the group if the one leader leaves? Will they accept any gaps you may have? If you come from agency to client, or client to agency, you may (not always, but you may) have lots of skills in one area but need to quickly skill up in others. However that's true agency to agency and client to client as well. It is possible, and it can be excellent. Side projects can keep you sharp and let you show your talents, too. Keep that portfolio going.

Cold applied for an awesome role, had an interview with hiring manager, recruiter, and given a pretty hefty assignment that I’m really proud of nailing. They followed up with an email asking for 4-5 days that I am available for a full day of interviews. Gave them 4-5 days, started planning for how I’d get those days off work during insane times at current job, and now not a single word from them to confirm a date. Been over a week now. Sad. Pretty jaded. What can I do? Already followed up

Hi all, I was curious about companies that have their own in-house advertising. I’m in digital media, specifically, SEM and potentially looking to leave the agency side. Primarily due to low pay, and management issues. Given this, any company recs that have a solid foundation with digital media? Any advice from people who’ve been on both the agency and branded side?

Thanks.
