Is there a second busy season at big4 for the extended tax deadline? And how busy is it really? Would they require the same billable hours like it is in spring?

How do you handle a boss/owner that is standing in the way of their own company's success? Everyone else knows it but is too afraid to confront them, including his business partner/co-owner. They are constantly derailing projects (to do non-billable work). We're stuck in an endless cycle of redoing our own site - the owner doesn't want to define a strategy so we can *actually* move forward. Dev team (me) is handed wireframes, I build it, then come review time he changes his mind all over again.

1st year lit associate at satellite office in v20. My office lost 20 attorneys since I started last September. Ive had less than 25 hours of billable work per week since March. Ive asked for more work to a partner in charge of lit work, but never heard back. Ive asked other partners for work & get biz dev projects. Asked other associates & was told everyone in office is slow, but now I'm hearing some ppl have work & am nervous. Advice?

I have practiced law for several years and still struggle with the feast-or-famine nature of my practice. (Sudden rush of client outreach, many emergencies, then … nothing). A famine week might be 3-4 billable hours/day. Partners: how many hours, including billable hours, do you need to work for a year? More than associates’ hours, or less, or about the same?

Naive question: How many yearly billable hours are reasonable for a good balance of work and home. I have a young child and don't want to miss out on important moments. I had one firm state that their yearly quota is 1900 hours and I don't have a frame of reference as to whether this is reasonable or if it means 12 hour days. I am coming from public service so billables are 100% new to me. Any insight is appreciated.

I understand the industry is very complex and large but is there really enough work for all of these shops to make a clean profit? Is £48k a decent salary in London? That's roughly 3k net/month.
I'm a 27M, single.
I'm thinking of renting a room for 750/800 a month, that leaves me with ~£2100, if I get the Oyster card that's another 150, and for groceries/going out I guess I won't need more than 600/month.
That allows me to save ~£1400/month.
Am I being too optimistic/unrealistic?
