I agree with the comments about accounting majors working as accounting clerks and bookkeeper jobs at small companies. It can happen to anyone who has been unemployed for a while and especially if you are the older worker. If you are not a CPA many companies won't hire you as a staff accountant. Working in an administrative or clerical role can be better than pivoting into sales or retraining. If you are the older worker it isn't always possible to get hired even if you do retrain to do something different.
Additional comment: I have been contacted by many recruiters about working for many of the companies where I had originally interviewed. I thanked them for considering me but always tell them that I was rejected from all of these companies in the past. I usually advise them to contact anyone who is currently a CPA or works for an investment or management firm.
Probably accurate. Most accounting majors first jobs are not paying what B4 do. This includes people taking accounting clerk and book keeper jobs at small companies. And of is 2 years old
They just bumped up tax salaries at EY for lower level employees.

This includes bookkeepers.

M2 — yep. The IT guy was something that i was going to raise as well. That’s why CS majors have much lower starting salaries than you’d expect if you only considered brand-name employers,
Also note that it says bachelor’s degree holders. Many accountants fresh out of school now hold Master’s degrees, so presumably they would not be included.
Started 2020 MCOL at Deloitte and the salary is spot on.
Started in 2022, MCOL and this is showing higher than what I made lolll
75-80k in hcol but many make much less in lcol or working for regional firms/small businesses. The small business in mcol those I worked for briefly had a starting salary of $40K for staff accountants.
