It sounds like you have some areas of opportunity and your manager is telling you what they are. My thoughts would be to take those recommendations, and try to improve?

This is a sucker’s game. Your effectiveness and quality matters less than someone with influence talking you up, regardless of whether you have the skill or not.

Find an exit. Take the exit.
After spending much of last 12-18 months in the same boat as you and being told once again that I was close but not ready, I fielded three offers, took one, and exited with a 35% increase on total comp.
In the market I'm in, I'd have to make Snr Manager to make this money.

Agree with all. Every time I go somewhere new I get a nice big raise.
The suckers’ mentality, that this company is somehow your only shot, is poison. Never be a sucker, and don’t believe everything you hear in a review, though there can always be some parts that are helpful feedback surely.
Consulting is a good stepping stone but overall it’s a sham. I would urge you to look outside and you will find many lucrative offers that leave consulting in the dust

Agreed, it’s mostly just bs and fake reviews

Leave, don’t listen to the nutty people on this app who like to believe meritocracy because somehow they landed in a good spot. You sound like you’ve done well, but it may just not happen for you. On to the next, and for a nice raise too
Control is about performance. You can control your career trajectory by working with decision makers to define your measures of performance. Whatever they are make sure they are measurable, you have buy-in, and there is a constant feedback loop between you and the decision makers. Then have a relentless focus on nothing else except performing along those measures. Everything else, including most client work, is a distraction and is delegated or deflected unless it directly impacts your “KPIs”

@SC1 as is often the case, the skill set that got you to this level is not the same one, at all, that will carry you forward to EM and above. Mush more about managing relationships than actual work.
