Need advice and pep talk because I’m certain I have chronic imposter syndrome :( Background on me, I have about 6 years of work experience post college but have gone through many companies because of layoffs and/or reorgs. With that, I’ve bounced a lot with different industries and have done different roles for a year max. My current role is about to be my longest (thank goodness, hitting about 2 years) but I feel like I’m not a SME in anything but I feel embarrassment for myself (Cont.)
How bad is it if you get laid off/fired for low performance? Is this career suicide? What happens if you try to get another job?
We’re in such a vicious business. You give your heart & soul to an agency, a client, a brand. Then the wind changes & you’re laid off, reassigned, chewed up, spit out, on to the next. I’m tired.
Say you work at Accenture and are doing OK (haven't been laid off yet and have projects lined up). Also let's say that you have good skills in cloud infrastructure, which is plenty busy right now. What would motivate you to accept a job offer at a tiny consulting firm (less than 300 people)? Would a good raise and a promotion to Senior Manager be enough? There are many risks involved with going to a tiny firm. What would it take for you make the jump and overcome concerns?
Will I get laid off by having low utilization? I have been asking for works but my utilization has been 50% YTD. First year. I'm very worried about the upcoming CRT review
For those who have been laid off, what does it look like right before? (like HR schedules a meeting with you?). I have this really bad pit in my stomach. No trolling or sarcastic stuff please.
People who have had confidence knocks: how did you get it back? I was laid off, 6M out of work, had therapy, now freelancing but I’m slow af. It’s like my brain only works in 2nd gear now.
Deloitte peeps: is there a typical time of the year when people get laid off (e.g., after year-end, before year-end, any time on the beach)?
I work at a small startup and a bunch of colleagues (around 30% of the company) got laid off today. I have a bit of survivors guilt. Should I contact these colleagues? Is it inappropriate this soon?..
For those of you who have been laid off, what do your days look like? Someone told me to expect 3-4 months at LEAST before finding another job
There was a payroll error and my severance was significantly overpaid and now they want to correct it. Am I obligated to return that money?
When someone gets fired/laid off but they keep their previous title/agency on LinkedIn, does anyone ever tell them to change it?
Single parent w/ 2 young kids & a mortgage and recently decided to pursue FL vs FT work after being laid off. A month in, loving it & finding myself very busy. Is this a honeymoon phase?
Husband and I are 8 months in to trying to conceive. After consulting with my doctors, based on my history w/ vaccines, we decided it is best to not get the vaccine while TTC. My obgyn also wants 18 months of consecutive trying before we start testing / looking at other options. My firm just changed policy to only allow vaccinated in the office and made hard deadline for everyone else to get vaccinated. Not sure what to do. Don’t want to tell employer I’m TTC but also don’t want to get fired.
How long did it take for you to find an exit? 1YOE and my company (boutique) is struggling, so I’m looking to leave ASAP, and getting worried I won’t find something before our next round of layoffs
If you come on at Morgan Stanley and fail the series 7 and get fired, can you apply to other locations after a certain amount of time goes on, or will they never allow you to get back on with them?
Can we talk about the failure that is vision 2020? I dunno about yalls office , but here in the south. We've had employees laid off , list multiple clients , and are now trying to pass stuff to India

Spent a year in consulting (tier 2), moved to industry (bank) at VP level for two years. Thinking of applying to MBB. What level should I apply to?
Anyone back working on the client site yet? How do you think the Delta variant could impact that?
Deep thought of the day: Wondering the Hantavirus will be more or less exciting than the Coronavirus?!?
Does anyone have advice about helping your kids through video conferencing anxiety? My 6 year old normally loves taking, happily volunteers to speak at school assemblies is completely freaked out by classroom zoom discussions. Says that “talking on a computer is weird” and he’s anxious to the point of tears.
I received an offer for 30k more than I’m making now at Deloitte for Cyber Risk.. what’s the main reason Advisory is a bad choice? Is a Senior Consultant role in this practice a bad place to be from a career growth perspective? I don’t understand the practice structure and am unsure if I’m being misled. I also don’t want to be doing only security assessments, if that’s what the work is like. 😅
I want to request feedback (I am a staff 1 about to roll off my first busy client and feel now would be the time) but I hesitate to seem “weird” or “uncool” to those above me. Is this a valid (cont.)
Do you enjoy the work at MBB? I know the hours can be long, but is the work interesting and/or enjoyable?
I see plenty of people go for a walk during the day, yet I hardly see any of my teammates appear “away” for 15/20+ minutes. I recognize that not everyone is in consulting, but can’t imagine that *none* of those walking are. Asking as a relative newcomer to the workforce: Is it acceptable to be away from work for more than just a few minutes, regardless of industry? If so, how can I feel comfortable stepping away to prioritize my health and well-being when so few of my teammates do so?
Ugh. Democrats will see this as obvious proof that many conservatives are conspiracy theorists that have lost their minds, conservatives will see this as proof the deep state exists and that this dude fought it with inside information. Or proof that you can be fired for "conservative views..." https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2020/09/21/nih-william-crews-covid-19-fraud-retire-anthony-fauci/5860559002/
Negotiating comp and hoping to source some advice, 9 yoe most recently pivoting from consulting to a pre IPO tech co. Their starting offer was TC of ~300k, does this sound reasonable or should I be negotiating harder? Finance & strategy role
What should you do when someone calls you out in front of client for not having done something yet, you message them privately that you don’t appreciate that, and then they gaslight you by saying that you’re too sensitive and it affects the working relationship?
So unemployment in NY … my severance was 2 weeks pay. Because my severance is 7 times my weekly UI benefit, that means I can’t receive UI for 7 weeks? If so, I got royally fked.
Has anyone gotten hired after following up after a delay in communication from the final round of interviews (e.g one week)?
Looking for a Marketing Intern on out team! 13 weeks, paid, remote. Opportunity to check out our NYC office if you’re local, or get together in person with your mentor if in the RVA area - pending COVID. https://www.spinmastercareers.com/global/be/job/R786/Marketing-Intern
Do MBA programs take grade deflation into account at all? I went to UC Berkeley and started off pre-med. Changed to Econ and had a 3.5 major gpa but 3.3 overall, can a good story+GMAT save me for M7?
I want to buy a $600 ticket but only have 40,000 Amex points. What’s my best option? Could I use points but have an Amex charge of $200? Not 100% sure how that works or f it messes with expenses
