It could also mean that they just preferred one of the other candidates, and not necessarily because they presented better. Maybe it was a close call and they loved you both, but the other one has more experience or worked on that brand in the past or has mutual friends with the hiring manager. This is a very competitive market for job seekers, and many people who recently lost their jobs are applying for and accepting jobs that they wouldn’t have otherwise considered. It sucks, and it’s natural to feel down on yourself, but don’t take not getting a job after final rounds as a reason to be down on yourself. Think positively that you’re getting to final rounds (which suggests you ARE good), that there are factors outside your control, and you just have to do your best to keep your head up and keep fighting the best you can. Good luck!!!

Of course not. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Who knows how many people they interviewed. They may have had several amazing options and found the decision really difficult. Maybe your strategy and insights are great but you just need to work on your delivery or deck design.
Can you ask the recruiter for some feedback or key learnings? Or ask a friend in another agency (or a current coworker you trust) to look over the projects you presented for their thoughts?
Lastly, there are tens of thousands of talented people in our industry out of work right now because of COVID. So the competition is much greater than it ever has been.
I was interviewing a lot mid 2018-2019. And a number of jobs resulted in me having to present, and ended up one of the last two standing. For one company I interviewed twice for 2 different roles, one of which included a math test old school style with only a paper, eraser and pencil.
The rejection when I was so close each time was exhausting and knocked my confidence quite a bit. I eventually found my next role moving from media planning to client relations but it was a s hell of a year interviewing . Often multiple interviews and more than one on-site so you burn through your vacation time etc.
When the time comes for me to start thinking about my next move, I hope I go in with a fresh open mind. I honestly really enjoyed the interviews and meeting the teams. It's when you get so close and don't make the last round that's the toughest.
