If it’s an advantage, take it. Same reason white men have added their fraternities for decades. One would hope it’s a bonus not a bucket. And one would hope you’re interviewed against everyone and not just those who also select diversity. On the flip side, companies that are not diverse at all or I single %, you risk not being considered right now if you don’t check it.

I’ve often wondered if being openly gay has improved my odds because companies are trying to fulfill a diversity quota of some sorts. It feels wrong to think that’s the only reason you stand out, but compared to all the bullshit we have to deal with in life due to our sexual identity, hell I’ll take any advantage it gives me

Like I said, any “advantage” you want to call it, I’m happy to accept those terms. And you have a fair point it’s nice to know that might be a bit of security in knowing you’ll be working for good people (I wouldn’t call it a guarantee) but I’ve found this industry is a bit more open minded in general, compared to other career fields I’ve spent time in

I think it makes sense to hire people for diversity in this industry because we're trying to provide value for and represent a diverse consumer. There's only a problem if they can't support your diverse needs once you're hired or only ask you to show up with your diversity in a tokenized way. Your LGBT take on a brief should be listened to and welcomed even when the campaign has nothing to do with Pride.
Deep understanding of adaptability is a strength too. We’ve had to adapt all our lives!

I also feel so much guilt for not mentioning it sometimes, it's a tough one to win
