I’ve sat in enough hiring discussions to know that “best candidate” doesn’t always win. Sometimes it’s the safest choice, the most familiar background, or the one that feels easiest to manage. We just don’t say that part out loud.
How often do you think hiring decisions are truly objective?

I am struggling with something like this now. We interviewed a great candidate who has been doing the type of work we need for a long time. For whatever reason, the HM doesn't want the person because of not being about to understand the technology. The person is already doing this job, how is the technology any different? Maybe different software, but the candidate learned it at the current job, so why not be able to learn here?

Hi! I started at a new company 2 months ago and while I’m really enjoying my job so far, I’m having a hard time gauging whether or not I’m doing a “good job.” My role seems to be always evolving, which is fine and I actually enjoy being a support to the greater marketing team, but I feel like I need better defined targets to make sure I’m meeting expectations. Also, when I ask my boss what they’d like to see, I don’t ever get a clear answer. (Cont’d in comments)

Does it look bad in my resume to resign after less than a year at a job? writing here the time I’ve spent at each company since graduating college:
- 2 years at company 1 (resigned to move back to home country)
- 2 years at company 2 (resigned and moved back to the US)
- went back to company 1 (it had grown exponentially after 2 years so came back at higher position) (resigned after 1 year to join a startup at director level)
- 6 months at startup and I want to quit with nothing lined up
