It depends on the person. I like a mix, days where I can introvert and focus on a specific project while wearing leggings and drinking coffee from my favorite mug AND days were I can feel the buzz of the office and interact with the people we serve. I like the flexibility to WFH when I have a sick child or repair person but I like talking to coworkers and the insights that happen from those off the cuff conversations.
I agree with D1. Don’t forget the little things that can make office work more relaxing though… like bringing in your favorite mug to drink out of at work.
Who knows with the new role there may be changes in a few months/ years where you can work from home a day or two a week.
I will never go back to an office. I’m more productive at home, and I tend to get more done. My work is always 100% completed, and I don’t always have to work a 40 hour week to accomplish that. I clean during breaks and don’t have to spend my weekends catching up on household chores either. It’s my perfect scenario.
Where do you work?? I'm dying to work from home
I'd love to! But based on my line of work, the best I could have is probably a hybrid setup. Also, I don't think that everyone who worked from is happier. It still depends on your preference.
100% my husband job is WFH and he has not adjusted well. He has said he wants his next position to be hybrid. It’s not for everyone!
Its really dependent on the person. My last job was more hybrid, and I though coming out of the pandemic that I wanted that since I like a dedicated work environment. But after a few months there I realized it wasn't a fit and I just felt stressed and distracted by coworkers talking all around me. I like socializing, but I just realized it wasn't constructive for me.
Conversely my aunt and a few friends can't understand fully remote work. They hate not being in the office. They feel they just can't work or get things done without that.
So if you're finding that being back in the office is bad for you, maybe you do need a fully remote job. Do what's best for you professionally and mentally.
I work from home and I miss the office. Could be the grass is always greener thing at play. But I miss human interaction.
I have been a WFH employee since 2020 and yes I’m much happier and I’m much more productive. Reason being I do all the things I need to do for my family and know I don’t have to worry about traffic/ gas prices and I don’t miss family events like is use to. It think it depends on the person. My manager has even said that my productivity and the quality of my work is much better. But I guess it all depend on the person it’s not for everybody.
Yes and no. Saving money on gas, more flexibility in their day, are huge perks but a hybrid schedule is where its at imo :)
When the pandemic first caused the lockdown, we had to wfh. I liked it, but for my job description, some things I had to rely on on-site workers for, which was annoying. But when we started doing hybrid, I didn’t realize how much I missed being around actual people that weren’t in my bubble. That being said, my new position is WFH, and now that winter is approaching, I’m very grateful not to have to commute.
I think a hybrid model is the best. You still get to meet in person a day or two a week but also have flexibility while working remote the other days
No
I WFH and love it ! If they took it away I would have to change jobs for another WFH. I love in metro Atlanta so driving in traffic is very stressful and I live 36 miles from the office. I’m a single mom of a school age child so I can be home when he gets off the bus. When he leaves the nest , I may get bored at home but I still would not want to drive in the ATL traffic.
Happier? It’s a spectrum. Most days yea because you’re in your own environment. Some days it gets lonely and you miss the office interactions. I do think the pros outweigh the cons.
Indeed
Yes, working at home full time is the best. I have the flexibility to live where ever I want and work odd hours if needed. I lived in the same city for 40 years. I have lived next to Cowboy Stadium (now AT&T) in Arlington and have lived in Destin and FT Myers Beach FL. I have a home gym/exercise room so I can work out and work at the same time. Not having to drive anywhere helps motivate me to take my daughter places when I get off work.
Working at home isn't for everyone. Of you are a social type, working at home probably won't be ideal.
I’d really love a WFH role. In person has become so exhausting and I’m naturally an introvert person. There is a lot of office drama at my current job amongst shifts and it makes a job I used to look forward to going to such a hassle. I’d love to try to WFH if for nothing else, my peace of mind and my kitty cat can sooth me in between hard tasks
100% wfh has been a godsend for me it has helped ease my depression and anxiety. Also I am so much more productive from home because when in an office setting I like to talk to others but with that working from home can be lonely especially if you are home by yourself
WFH is great as long as you're not micromanaged and the role is flexible in regards to hours. This is my first WFH job and I would find it hard to not WFH. Although I have met people that hate working from home
I wfh full time and I love it. Im more introverted so it’s a good fit for me. I’m more productive and concentrating. I do have to make an effort to get out and move around and see people but it’s much easier when not dealing with snow and traffic. I have more time for my family. It takes more effort to make work friends but I have and those in the same city we visit each other.
You get into it what you put out.
I save a good 2 hours a day from commuting, so yea I’d I’m much happier!
I wasn’t happier.
Yes 🙂
I would say absolutely. That would be a dream for me.
I am happier working from home. I can choose the hours I wish to work as long as I have the work returned by the deadline. I find offices too noisy, too chaotic, often there are people who don't have enough to do and they wander through the office stopping to visit other employees at their desks. I don't want to be in a place where I'm forced to take breaks at pre-determined times. If I'm in the middle of something and it's going well, I don't want to stop for lunch at that moment and disrupt the progression on the work that I am making. I've had plenty of jobs where teamwork was required and it can be enjoyable to have others around and sharing the work with a common goal, but too often one or more members are not focused on the work and they'll waste time on breaks or standing talking with someone. And the endless waste of time that is consumed by "meetings" which often don't accomplish anything. I think it's worthwhile for any organization to allow people to try a work-from-home period of time to see who is able to provide a valuable benefit to the company by doing so. If you are a person who needs the stimulation of hearing other people around you and seeing others around you working then working from home is probably not for you. The cons of working from home can include loneliness, lack of motivation, running into problems with the work and not being able to trouble-shoot the issues yourself, constantly needing someone to "check with" to see that you are doing something correctly. Virtually, you are alone and you have to be very comfortable with what you are working on so that you don't need a constant access to someone who can answer your questions. When I had a direct boss who I worked for, we would have meeting times on our calendars on a regular basis, where we would get together, he would present everything he is working on at the moment, the deadlines, the need for certain things to be located for each project, and then I took the work home to do. A lot of the projects involved looking up information in the library and photocopying articles to be attached to the work, so I would often spend half a day in the hospital library locating these things. You have to love what you're doing, you have to be very independent, you have to be self-motivated and you have to be "at work" - treat your home office like it was located away from home so that family members or neighbors don't feel that they can drop in for 20 minutes whenever they want. I'm certainly much happier than I was when I worked full time in an office; I do work which doesn't have to be done in a fully staffed office; I am responsible for setting my own work hours to suit myself as long as the work is delivered when promised.
