Joined PwC post-MBA. Didn’t do my due diligence about the lower career trajectory (compensation-wise) and feel like I should’ve tried for MBB or tier-2 (S&, ATK, etc). What are my options? TIA

2) make the best of it

I’m a PwC advisory partner and I make more here than I did as an MBB partner, the comp isn’t anything to sneeze at. The fact that you’re not even 1 year in, that you didn’t pay attention in the one pace where literally everyone knows the information you somehow didn’t pick up on, and that you’re asking about moving firms in the middle of a global pandemic suggests you might want to think hard before you consider a next step.

Is Georgetown considered a target school?

I just started post-mba this year as well.

First off, the comp increases in consulting across all firms has been excellent for 2019 grads (assuming you are as well). We are incredibly lucky to have graduated when we did. Ask anyone who has been working at any firm for several years and they’ll be shocked at the base pay for mbas who have done nothing yet to prove themselves.

Additionally, if you are truly tier 1/2 material, you should be promoted on an accelerated track while probably working 10-20% less hours per week than required to keep your head above water at a tier 1/2. No, the work and expectations are not the same for more pay.

Yes good points

How do you accidentally fail to recruit for mbb/t2 in an mba program? Everyone and their mothers are talking about them

Agree ZS and SC1. I didn’t have some grand career plan that I spent years refining and jockeying for. Now that I have better info, simply looking for how to take advantage of it

Bad timing due to the uncertain economy but maybe things will recover fast. Stick it out for 1-2 years and maybe get a promo. Network a ton in the meantime. Work on and get your name published in PwC thought leadership in a certain area that you think tier 2s will care about. This way you can present yourself as a specialist in X as opposed to a generic candidate. Spend months interview prepping before you start your recruiting push.

Another option is to start planning your exit to industry now. There's a decent chance you get sick of consulting. That will kill your motivation to interview prep to work at another consultancy. Think about what you may want to do next and start networking in that direction.

I am a business development manager in a small biotech incubator. My end goal is to work in commercial, BD or operations within a big pharma/biotech company. What would be best for me:

1) stay in my company to quickly become BD Director and then exit (however my learning opportunities within my current company might be limited)
2) go do consulting for a few years
3) any other recommendations?

Thanks!
