If it was a mass layoff, it's probably cuz of a loss of business or some other outside factor, and not because you're a bad person or employee.
In this case, it's fine to mention it.
Getting let go is almost a right of passage in advertising. And a very common occurrence.
That’s a mass layoff and you’re fine to mention it. As ACD says it happens to everyone...I always think a lay-off in this industry is not an if, when.
So mention it, be factual but don’t trash them a lot either. Eg you can say “they lost 2 accounts in the last 6 months” or “client slashed their budgets 25%” but don’t say “their shitty management style and I compete caused the client to leave.”
...it won’t let me edit but that should say ‘incompetence’.
Absolutely. No shame. Don’t take it personally—it’s happened to 99% of us. More than once. Hold your head high.
Sorry to hear OP. Know that everyone experiences mass layoffs in this industry and it’ll happen multiple times throughout a career. Especially in this current climate. Keep your head up.
Yeah, we’ve all been there.
I just told them in the interview business changed with the client and there was a layoff. Nothing they haven’t heard before
Yes. There is no shame is being laid off. We have all been there and some had the displeasure of doing the deed. No one is going to judge you and it is not a slight on your talent.
Good luck!
