Got messaged by a C3 . ai recruiter. Read that wlb is bad and that the interview process is absurdly long, but the Glassdoor reviews are 4.2 and can't find actual hours worked posted by anyone. How's the culture really? I'd be aiming for DS consulting, something more functional but with DS/ML concepts as my differentiator.

Sign up for unemployment pronto.
Literally feel like they put a bag over my head, put me in a van, and threw me out on the side of the road. This is not a way to treat people.

That’s awful. I’m so sorry to hear this. Please tell us where so we avoid working there in the future.
Name and shame
Unfortunately yes, it’s legal. A business has a right to terminate employees, and without severance.
I’m really sorry OP. Mind if I ask what agency this is?
Perfect forum to put them on blast.
That’s called being fired.
P.S. Sorry that happened to you.

It's not illegal, but it's commonly understood that it's a d-bag move to toss someone without giving them at least a little cushion. Even two weeks pay is likely more than you'll get from 2 months of unemployment. I really want to know what agency did this to you, but also know that would probably (unfortunately) cause more trouble for you than it's worth.
Usually they give you severance in exchange for signing a termination agreement. This document basically states that you can’t sue or publicly talk about them in an unfavorable light.
So if there is no agreement, then it would be worth getting an initial free consultation with a lawyer to find out if they can help you. A letter from that lawyer might be a simple way to get a severance package.
See a lawyer they can negotiate a good severance package for you!

Sorry that happened to you OP
Depends on state law but in my state you are not entitled to any severance unless stated in the contract or in good faith from the company
It's so fucked but it's legal. Depending on the reason for termination there's sometimes room to negotiate and there's no harm in asking. Reasons could be tenure, seniority, good performance. Harder to do with a reduction in force.
In any experiences like this I've ever seen, a company can choose to not give any severance if the termination is due to performance issues. Especially if that person was on a PIP or warning. Did you have any issues before being let go?
unfortunately yes.
You should talk to an employment lawyer
Dentsu does this.
No idea who did this to you, but I’ve been there and trust me, you will be much better off sooner than you think.
It’s uncommon, but completely legal. Some factors that might be worth understanding: Were there others let go at the same time? Did the company have a sudden decline in revenue? Were there any discussions about your performance? Were you a recent hire? In most cases, it’s a waste of time and emotional energy to fight with your former employer. But if you can make an argument that there was anything improper about your termination (ageism, racism, sexism), a professionally-worded email might get you some severance. Normally, the agency has you sign a waiver in exchange for your severance. You might mention that you’d be willing to sign a waiver if they provide a courtesy amount of severance.
Usually something in the original offer or company policy has information about severance, and time tables vs compensation. Only then would it be illegal to NOT give you it. If not, they screwed you from the start and never let you know about it…
I’m so sorry this happened to you, it’s happens to the best of us: just means you are meant for something greater.
Good thing for everyone to remember that employment is generally at will, you can be let go at anytime. Any security of “Full time” is a mirage. There is no such thing.
Best to you, pulling for you!
