Look people, be careful when the market takes a downturn. I lost a significant amount in gains because I had people I trusted that told me to do things in March.

I should have known better and followed the investment books.

People who know nothing are going to talk during bear markets. Block out the noise and continue to DCA into index funds..

I remember that some estimates mentioned that 3M people will die in the US. It was very inaccurate but if anyone criticised these forecasts, they were labelled as Trump supporters.

One idea is to read news from both sides. Media in general likes to exaggerate based on their world view as it helps them to get more audience.

I’m not offensive. But the irony isn’t lost on me that you complain about fake news while wildly taking numbers out of context and present them as fact. You are fake news.

funny

Wait, what did they tell you to do in March? Convert to cash? Hold out until an even bigger dip (speculation about election and end of stimulus and flu season and whatver else)?

OP, I can’t blame you. Just the week before everything crashed I dropped a bunch of money in. I had to fight the urge to cash out too. I couldn’t even look at my portfolio anymore.

Ugh I'm considering selling off some tech for some normal SnP500

Do not let others influence you.

Markets can obviously be irrational and this could go on a long time.

For any of you real estate investors, what tools or sources did you learn from when getting started. Can’t find a mentor currently so want to find some highly recommended books or videos. If focused on the tri-state area (NY, NJ, Long Island mainly) that would be even better. My hope is to buy and rent out a apartment while also owning a house and house hacking that by renting part of it out. Trying to understand all the steps, traps, and how to find if it’s a good investment.

Making a lot of money relative to the average but feeling poor? Median after-tax income was ~$55,000 in 1981 and was ~$73,000 in 2020. Using a Bank of Canada inflation calculator $55,000 in 1981 is equivalent to ~$165,000 today, which would put someone in the top 10% of earners today. But in 1981 the median family had that extra money. Who can I blame?
