Looking for help around an informational interview. Interview is this week with a partner in energy project finance (renewable focus). This will be a career path change for me (currently in international tax), so looking for any insights from current practitioners. Obviously doing some background research on my own, but any info on interesting aspects of the work and/or talking points that would lead to a richer discussion about the work would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I would do some research and learn a bit about how a project finance work. I do some renewable work and this is a big aspect of my work.

A1 - Ya I’ve done some leg work around learning more about debt financing, use of SPVs, and tax equity structures. But is there a particular aspect that dominates the work that would also serve as a good general discussion point for the interview? Like I said, this is all new to me, but seems really interesting. So just looking for some general direction on what might be best to focus on on.

As an operations manager I manage budgets/billing process for a portfolio of clients within my agency. My role is partially “risk management” and without being able to refer to a specific figure, I KNOW I have saved the company from write-offs and other financial/client risk. Is there anyone who does a similar role that has implemented a way of tracking “dollars saved” or “would-be write-offs”? I’m trying to quantify/apply value to the work I do in plain dollars and cents.

A partner put me in charge of a specific project that I ran independently. Things were going well. The client began asking me to do more and more, including revamping their system and internal trainings. The client even gave me a litigation matter. Suddenly, the partner became more involved. I was removed from meetings concerning the revamping, my trainings were cancelled, and he started micromanaging. He has now sidelined me from the project and trash talked me to the client. I am very upset.

I’m a third year, and am the most junior person all of my teams (generally me, a senior or two, and a partner or two), and I always feel like I’m messing something up. And FWIW I went to HYS and I’ve had a clerkship so it’s not like I’m not smart

Do people proactively begin finding work when they know they may be low on work soon? Or do they just wait until they actually don’t have enough work to fill their days? Have a larger project that is winding down and my main case is slowing down a bit so I anticipate potentially needing to find more work soon, and I was unsure if that was something I needed to worry about.
