Looking for ideas for a slight "career change". I can't stand working bedside/acute care nursing anymore, officially burnt out.

Does anyone have any experience with informatics based nursing jobs, or clinical documentation specialist positions? EMR auditing? Remote jobs? Pros/cons? Do you find there are part time positions available?

I don't have my masters just my BSN/RB, nor do I plan on going back for my masters, would possibly consider a certification if really necessary.

You could look into Employee health positions or clinical education positions. Or even wound care. There’s lots of nursing positions that don’t require you to be the main nurse taking care of a patient directly :)

like

I work in clinical content and really enjoy it! I get to work from home, be creative, and feel like I’m making a difference. I write educational pieces for docs and nurses mostly, but some patient facing materials too

like

I currently am a clinical documentation specialist after being a bedside nurse for 12yrs. I’ve had the job for 3hears now and love it! The training blows and it’s hard to learn, but if you stick with it, it’s so worth it.

like

Not sure if you need a masters for this, but what about training? Would that interest you at all?

like

When you find the right hospital, bedside is actually good. It’s the working environment especially management and administration that makes for burnout.

like

that may have been the case before the national staffing crisis

like

I know several nurses who have transitioned away from the bedside into a care manager role doing discharge planning. Something to look into.

like

You should look into Flatiron Health. 100% remote position doing abstraction for oncology case files. They start you part time but you can easily move into a full time position. I love it! They are on Linked In.

like

i just looked into this, they require 1 year experience in oncology unfortunately

like

Have you considered research nursing?

like

There is also navigation

like

Can you explain more about navigation? What does that involve?

UR or Case Management. Most UR jobs now are remote. CM jobs let you stay in the hospital but you aren't in direct care.

Have you considered school nurse? I know the pay isn’t great but it’s a nice schedule. Not sure if you have children or not.

You can usually find CDI jobs. You’ll need to get some coding training

I do school nursing in NYC with agency. Pay with agency is way better right now compared to being hired by school system. New school
Year is 75/hr. It was 90 last school year. I was floating and per diem. I love school nursing, low stress, schedule is 8am-3pm. I leave work with energy to do stuff after work and weekends. I just picked up full time with them and am assigned to one school.

Agency is called United staffing solutions. They are great. They usually have an indeed post. They have schools in all boroughs.

like

I use to work from home as a remote triage nurse. It was great!

If you have oncology experience you could work for Flatiron Health doing clinical data abstraction. It is 100% remote.

I was alone and confused. I have never really got the chance to prove myself which makes me all the more depressed. I'm not sure what to do with my future, indecisive and low on confidence.
