Looking to transition out of law practice after 1 year. Long story short, I have been practicing for a year, and my current firm is only paying me 17.00/hr. Its really a terrible situation, and i feel very taken advantage of. Any advice for a young attorney on how to transition? I have tried on several occasions to apply to JD preferred jobs at large insurance companies. Almost anything would be a pay raise. I am totally open to a new career field. This little pay is not worth the stress.

That’s lower than the minimum wage in many places. You can almost certainly get a different attorney job that pays more.

I work with an ex-lawyer who went into Customer Success Management in Banking after working for 18 months in family law. She’s now in tech but still loves customer success management.

Doing contract document review pays more. I was getting $25/hr straight out of law school… thirteen years ago.

I suggest going for another lawyer job that pays more while you look for longer-term solutions. Having a little more money in your pocket can help you think more long-term.

RE broker and investor!!! I do both, law and RE as and agent!!! Although I’m a RE broker I have decided to start as an agent to learn the ropes!!! My goal is to get into RE investing and developing!!! Where are you located???

Just to note, this is about a 25% increase compared to what I am currently making.
