My son is 7 and he has to do ninja moves all the time. He cannot walk anywhere without kicking and spinning along the way. Losing my mind.
I hear you. We are big in the construction truck phase and I’m over it. You aren’t alone!
Oh, I feel you! My 5 year old is into Pokémon. He has a huge collection of cards (I get suckered into buying them from the bodega across the street out of pandemic Mom Guilt). We “play” but I have no f-ing clue what is happening! Charmander evolved? He “caught” a rare Duodina with an Energy card? Props to you for being an amazing parent and engaging with your kid even if it frustrates you to madness during this busted and baffling time. He’ll remember it. xo
Totally sympathize. I will happily play board games, do crafts, do mom/kiddo yoga, build things, etc., but ALL my four year old wants to do is play pretend. And, of course, I always have to be the “bad guy.”
Ha yes! And the worst is when I try to get into whatever pretend scenario he has set up he shoots all my ideas down! “No the blaster doesn’t work like that.” “No you don’t have those powers”
Kid. Isn’t that the beauty of make believe?!? There are no rules?
Definitely can relate to this. To avoid getting sucked into his worlds of superheroes and Star Wars, I try to get him to check out new stuff with me. Had some luck redirecting towards drawing pictures together, getting him to help me cook or clean, and watching funny animal videos on YouTube.
At least your kids play with toys. Mine don’t care about anything other than electronics, tablets and video games. Even from as young as 5 they were glued to electronics.
There is plenty of that happening too! We held firm for a long time but then - COVID. It’s been a slippery slope ever since. If I refuse on the super heroes his next response is ipad?
I feel ya!
