Monday thoughts- what was your last straw for leaving public accounting as a senior instead of waiting until manager?

Also has anyone left as a senior in PA to senior accountant in industry and still gotten into a manager type role within 1-2 years? People always make it seem like the path of going to senior accountant takes many years to move on to the next level

Going the finance route (FP&A and strategic finance) is a much harder pivot at the manager level. I always knew I'd leave at senior and I've been happy with the move.

Is it harder to get to manager at public company? Aren’t there typically more position at large companies?

Yeah. I saw people do it all the time at the smaller firm. But I don’t know about big one

Target info: >$2MM rev., ~100K EBITDA, ~10% YoY growth

I actually enjoyed my first year and especially being done with busy season now feeling pretty good. Not at all actively looking to leave, but just looking for advice on if I would be crazy for not pursuing an opportunity for so much more money at least a little further. Really what I care about is my long term career more than anything

I was in audit for about 4 years then switched to provisions. I’m now 7 years in and want a more steady schedule. I like the client aspect of public accounting, flexibility and mentoring/training younger associates, but feel pretty meh about tax in general. I’m not doing another busy season even if that means leaving without a job lined up. What does a person do in this situation?
