I was in a group msg with other directors because my simple question was perceived as selfish since it was regarding my interest in joining a new project that we just won. There was clear miscommunication and differences in approach between the three. I don’t want this to snowball into something bigger.
Any recommendations on how I should handle this?
I already have an open dialogue going with my immediate manager who was also involved. We were so nervous about how the CEO might respond that we hopped on a call before hand to craft my question.
I am really confused by this entire incident. Was I guilt tripped into being in the wrong? The CEO is under a lot of pressure to win business and is locked into a sales mindset so I do understand that by thinking about myself it could have come off as criticism towards him and his company.
P.S. My question was never answered and the CEO dm’d me to accuse me instead of saying it to the group.
Sounds like the Director has some insecurity issue(s) they need to deal with. I would advise challenging them by asking why they think you’re not a team player. Ask them what part of your question(s), they have an issue with then proceed to have them provide a recommendation then you respond, “Thank you, I will certainly consider it,” then hang-up. Mic drop!
