Hi there. Ex Deloitte Sr Mgr here, currently in tech pre sales (SaaS / MarTech). Recently spoke to both Salesforce and Adobe recruiters for roles that I thought were lateral moves (Sr SA / Sr SC), therefore I did not proceed with the selection process. The recruiters from both companies told me they typically hire at that level, and people are considered for promotion to Principal in 1 to 2 years. I found that odd. Is that right? What’s the typical TC for SAs and SCs there? (15+ yrs exp).
Do you regret accepting an early promotion?

That’s called being pigeonholed. You are filling a niche need for them. They’re happy you’re doing it and will pay you handsomely to do so. It’s not likely they’ll let you out of it now- that’s what the raise was for.
It comes down to whether you can live with that box they’ve put you in.

You’re the guy they give all their radioactive garbage to. Couldn’t tell you why they want those types of cases, but they do (for as long as they have someone to do it.)
They won’t change and if you want one you’re going to have to look elsewhere.
I work here too, they gave me a bigger raise than you.
Shots fired!

Are you willing to take a pay cut for easier cases?
(Continued) I feel like I need to keep looking for a new firm because nothing is changing. It’s incredibly frustrating because all the other associates are working with partners on interesting, hourly cases and I’m slugging it out in the trenches on my own running the cases no one else will go near. It seems obvious that an associate who’s been here a third of the time I have has gotten good work right from the beginning and is on a track for partnership where I am not. There’s no way for me to advance with the types of cases I’m being fed.
Yea I have kind of set in my mind that I’m going to talk to HR (who has a role in passing these messages along) and the head of litigation to explain that this isn’t okay and I’m not going to keep putting up with this
You’re like a miracle worker for them. They bring you garbage cases and you’re generating revenue like squeezing blood from a rock. Might be time to bounce if they dont re-position you based on your requests.
