Have my closing interview with Accenture next week. So far the Director and MD I have met with have both liked me and the recruiter has said that they have both given me a thumbs up and that the upcoming closing interview with the MD is just a conversation. From my research I’ve also read that it’s just a sanity check to make sure I’m not a nutcase. Of course anything can happen, but I’m expecting an offer. (Cont)

Any one familiar with comp for a Portfolio Associate roll at PIMCO on their mortgage backed securities team? I’m looking at an offer and want make sure I’m in line with the average comp for the company and industry. Only 4 months of experience and offer is 98k w/ 10-20% bonus plus 15k relo/ sign on. Looking at Glassdoor, bonuses seem higher than quoted by the hiring manager. (No written offer yet they say they’re still working on it)

This is a sales job at the end of the day, sadly your technicals don’t give you brownie points past a certain threshold
I’m a CPA and came from big 4 with strong technicals (basically a modeling whiz) but the only thing they care about is how quickly I can answer client emails and kiss ass. I shit you not
Totally agree. Not necessarily worried about doing well once I get the job, just about breaking in. I think my consulting background translates well to answering client emails lol
I don’t think CFA or MBA is necessary.
No longer working at CS / banking, but at a buy side shop that’s hiring, if that’s something you’re interested in as well. Feel free to DM me.
As someone who made the move from big 4 consulting -> really bad bank -> EB. I think your best shot is going to be through an MBA. The reality is recruiting into banking as an MBA vs the analyst level is significantly easier and thus the odds of getting an offer from a BB or EB. As odd as it may sound, but from the inside I can say the quality of resumes we see for analyst roles vs associate roles are night and day. Most undergrads or lateral candidates have 3.9+ GPAs and stellar experience in banking (internships or another bank). While MBA associates come from all backgrounds and as long as their GMAT is decent we give them a good shot at the role.
TLDR: I made this move and believe I just got really lucky. I don’t think it’s very replicable
Depends on the banks you’re targeting
Thanks for the response - care to elaborate? I’ve definitely considered prioritizing LMM and MM banks with the hope of transitioning to UMM or BB after a few years of development.
I would say that the best success ratio can be achieved by networking. I also believe that went someone on your network gives you a chance, it would need to be justified by qualifications and records. If you have a good track record, I wouldn't think you would need a CFA or MBA, but it would be good to have it.
Check out the early career lateral program by JPM and GS. That’s the one I did.
Haha no no, excel and I are great friends. My point is that I don’t want to spend six figures on an MBA when IBD is mostly excel and client service, both of which I am skilled in from consulting.
Networking and applying are probably your best bet!
You already are very well credentialed. If you have all the knowledge down plus a great understanding of financial statements, I'd think networking and applying now would give you a decent shot.
CFA is not useful for IB but MBA would help
