My job feels more like sales assistance than customer service. I feel like I could thrive in sale positions but my company doesn’t like to promote internally and would rather hire out when sales positions open up. We don’t know about the positions opening until they are filled already. But since I don’t have technical sales experience on my resume I feel like I get regularly overlooked when applying. Any resume advice?

Is it a red flag if, after almost two years in a full quota carrying and selling role I want to take a lower role at another company in order to break into a field (tech sales) I want to work in? It’s better pay - closer to home and at a company with a better reputation?

My company blames my generation for not being able to hire everyday. “You guys don’t want to work” coming from some overweight, racist, old coaster. I’ve barely taken any days off this year and pick up “skeleton crew” days any chance I get. I was able to work out a deal with my company before I came because of prior experience luckily, but they offer a terrible base salary and sham of a commission structure to new hires + no remote.
