My promo will be official in two weeks and along with that, will have an AM reporting to me moving forward. Any tips for becoming a manager? I’ve managed interns and an AM in an unofficial reporting capacity but now it’s official.

Set time with them from the start to talk about what helps them do their best work, what opportunities they’re interested in, and what your expectations are. I currently have 4 juniors reporting in for me and I’ve always found that initial conversation important to understand who they are/what their interests are/share a bit about me and who I am

I agree with the above comment. Definitely start by meeting each individually to build a good rapport. Have an open-door policy and check in periodically. Get to know them on a more personal level not just on work related issue. Good luck to you.

Wow! Congrats OP! I would say the best thing you can do as a manager is instill confidence in your line reports, always open to support but trusting them to solve their own issues to the best of their abilities.

Anyone got offer from uk through third party payroll.?

My husband just received a job offer on an opportunity he is really excited about. It would be great for his career and they are giving the 15% jump in base he asked for, however they won’t share what the target bonus amount would be. It’s an executive director position, so I would assume it’s a decent target bonus, but without that in writing it could honestly be a gift basket at the end of the year. Is it a red flag for them to not share this? His total comp could be less at this new job…

I work for a small agency and manage our internal marketing acct. We had very few processes in place when I started. I’ve since created, implemented, and trained our dept. on project mgmt for clients and am trying to convince the owner to apply those principles to our internal jobs. They are resistant because they just want the work to be done and don’t “want to keep spending money on internal jobs”. I’m confused because we’re doing the work either way and “spending” in labor/resources.

Throughout my career, I have worked at both “traditional” and “digital” shops. My current agency would fall under traditional but also offers digital services. Our process, roles and skillsets seem way outdated but I wasn’t sure if it was just my opinion or if this is just how it works. For example, we have no CTO or tech leads. Our digital producers feel more like project managers than actual producers. Account Management is just traditional, no real digital knowledge. Feels layered and dated.

Anyone else finding it very difficult to get any enjoyment out of account management these days? Any coping tips? I feel like being an account person is especially difficult in the COVID era since so much of what we do is manage communications, ensure the team is set up well etc. None of this feels particularly fun alone staring into the void of Zoom all day ... but the same pressure is still there.
