As someone who had a parent in consulting, I generally don’t suggest it once the kid is really forming memories. Newborn is fine, but the relationship you’ll have with a 5-15 year old is very different if you’re home every night for dinner vs. not in my opinion
If raising your kids yourselves is important to you, you will need to rethink your career choices. This is coming from a mom of 2 who went out of client service as a SM.
One of you needs to be on a local project at all times
would like to know from the other consulting couples, how did you manage consulting career and family? What are some of the dos and don’ts? Thanks in advance
One needs to get off the road. The baby needs some stability.
Not sure if you’re 🚹 or 🚺 but here’s the link to the consulting moms bowl, I’ve found it very helpful. Can someone else post the consulting dads link?

I was on the road in client service for the better part of a decade, until I had my first child. My spouse works remotely with the occasional client or team meeting during the week and I took an internal role in order to get off the road. Our child is in daycare, since we both mainly work from home, and it’s really been a smoother transition than I thought. That said, I’d always known that kids meant getting off the road (it was my personal choice and I wanted to be present for my kids in a way that just wouldn’t have been possible in my old role), so I was genuinely ready for that change.
