Mystery Zoom between middle school Autism classes. Hey mod/ severe special needs teachers. I would like to have my class Zoom with another similar class for communication/ socialization. It could be a mystery where our classes are located and the students will need to ask questions to each other like what’s is your weather like? I love teaching art but am having to teach remotely to 1150 kids, k - 5. Have about 54 amazing elementary art teachers in my district that share SO much! I am also being released, however my school has told me that I can come back once i accomplish the tasks I need to accomplish.
For people that are on the fence about the industry, I tell them to try another district. You know what you did and didn't like about your school so you can go in armed to see what another school is like. Don't be afraid to see the school, ask for a tour, talk to the teachers. Sky's the limit!

Anyone else the last to be informed about ANYTHING at their site? I am only a second year SPED teacher and my eyes are already wide open to the fact that admin and Gen Ed teachers so often fail to inform me about important things regarding the grade levels I teach and other school events. Then I’m left scrambling to inform my students and parents of essential information, and I’m embarrassed! My aides also look at me like why don’t you know this? Aggravating.

HELP! 30+ years of teaching Sped and I’m at a loss. 6th grade student in Middle School with Doose syndrome. Prior to MS, the elementary said he never caused problems. Since the 1st day, he is disruptive in class, refuses to work, and is disrespectful. He has a one-on-one para but she is in tears most days because of his behavior. Parents agreed with a behavior plan - he thinks it’s a game. Parents say he is not allowed to be this way at home.

I have a principal with ZERO sped experience or knowledge observing and rating me. I got all distinguished last year from my AP. He gave me all basics & 2 unsat. He’s told us to not worry about goals

IEP, 504, and those without internet will return in-person next week while rest of students remain remote. Regular Ed teachers may have students (mild Learning Disabled kiddos) in their room while teaching. They are saying it’s a liability issue if they have one student in the room with them, even though teaching other via Zoom. Thoughts? Anyone else experiencing this?

High school special class (self-contained) teachers: What do you use for planning? I’ve always been an inclusive teacher, so I followed the plan book of my co-teacher. I can’t even decide if I should go digital or paper-based let alone make a final decision! I’ll be teaching 9-11th grade math and 11th grade science. The 11th grade classes I can very much do whatever I (or the student) want/need…there isn’t a set curriculum
