Partner doesn’t like when we reply with “No problem” because it sounds like it would be a problem otherwise. 😐
“No problem” is better than “If I have no other fu$king choice” which is what honest communication would demand

MP told me that I should say documents are “enclosed” rather than “attached.” I’m sure he thinks about these things on his carriage-ride home on gaslamp-lit streets since he’s clearly living in Victorian times. Emails have attachments, Sherlock
my Outlook says "You may have forgotten to attach a file"

A partner talked to me about using “attached please find” or “attached hereto” since “attached” accomplishes the same. I actually appreciated this advice and now get annoyed when people say “attached hereto” or “attached please find”

It annoys me bc as Attorney 1 noted I am part of the problem
Partner called and was adamant that whenever I get work sent my way I need to reply by saying “thank you”followed by “best regards”.

I sent an email with discovery responses and wrote “counsel, please see the attached.” I got screamed at by an insane partner because it was extremely important that the transmittal email use certain super important language. 🙄

Oh I saw that plenty of times. He tormented an associate so badly the kid developed a stutter.
A partner gave me hell because my cover letter “was not in house style” and she didn’t think she would “have to review an associate’s cover letter”. Spent a good deal of time asking around what was wrong (she didn’t want to tell me) - turns out there was an extra “.” after my sub-para numbering (which obvs nobody noticed or cared)
I now work for a firm that values short and simple emails. I sometimes say “LMK” to clients in emails 😎

Honestly, why do people (taking about the MP) care about this? There are a million million things I'd have on my plate or care about before this would even sniff the priority he/she gave you.
1. No business sense for efficiency and don’t understand clients rarely care about these issues, but they realize these small items cumulatively make a firm look better to a client.
2. Trying to eat up time. I swear this is part of it for some people.
3. Poor managerial skills where they think they’re making you a better lawyer.
Basically I think if partners knew just how often we encounter issues like this they’d have a better idea why people leave. Working long hours is one thing, but working long hours with people like this feels like death by a thousand cuts.
