Don't underestimate the question of "how many people do you hire without pharma background" and" how do you craft a learning path to help them be effective quickly?"
There's no reason to spin your previous experience. Just show that you have everything it takes other than the pharma lingo and logistics - but you can emphasize your own proactivity too: put thought around your own 30/60/90 plan to learn (online research, on the job shadowing) to show autonomy and initiative to getting up to speed as well.
What level are you interviewing for? I did the shift from consumer to pharma, I’d say to emphasise on ethics, regulations (any examples you could have that could be relevant with strict regulations even if not pharma), mostly to show you can be creative while respecting regs is a plus. Ive been in pharma for 6 years now and am not from a science background, i usually talk about my passion on certain health related topics and usually does the job. Good luck!!
It’s for a senior account supervisor, so definitely acceptable for industry switching. I’m just anxious since I haven’t interviewed seriously in three years

DM me if you want to chat about this, not sure what role your going for but the essentials are the same, really. If you’re doing paid search in any industry, you know it’s about making smart decisions based on data that ultimately make sense for the brand and its audience; your expertise in the medium is more attractive than your inexperience in the pharma space, this is a chance to learn as well as lead, just be confident in what you’ve achieved and assure yourself that the first person RPG of life has led you this side adventure, and these tangents are fun too. Also, this industry needs new blood, and your in a prime position to up your game and your tax bracket.
really appreciate this! it’s for a mid-level role so I just need to lean on my experience and everything you’re saying is exactly what I needed to hear, thank you!
Don’t try to cover up or b.s. your lack of pharma. Lean into your background to emphasize why that experience helps you think of solutions differently/better than the average account exec who has only worked in pharma—this is an advantage to play up, not be concerned about. And like others said, note a passion for health issues, plus drop in how hard you’ll work to learn the ins and outs of the industry.
And if it’s been a while since you interviewed, just remember—none of us really knows what the hell we’re doing.
I have experience with that team. DM me if you have any questions!
Can anyone tell me if Edelman Germany takes employees without a proper german language knowledge? And what is the salary to be expected for 4-5 years of experience in India?
Edelman can teach you Pharma and their process. As long as you have the core competencies of a good account client services person. That and they haven’t oversold you or need someone truly pharma experienced to manage a fussy client.
