Newbie here. Did any one engage a financial planning service? I’m 34 with young kids, no debt, and $300k in cash. Absolutely no other financial/estate planning and overwhelmed!

Ok seriously - save 6 months emergency fund. Where do you live? Perhaps look into real estate in your area. A duplex if possible - set aside the cash for a deposit. Whatever is left over, invest the rest into the stock market. DCA if you like, but stock are on sale right now. Try and diversify your portfolio when investing.

I don’t think financial planners are worth it for most regular people without insanely high amounts of money or asset complexity. That said, I would definitely invest that cash beyond a 6 month/1 year emergency fund that you keep in a savings account since it’s ultimately deflating over time. There are lots of investments depending on your personal risk tolerance but some good rules of thumb are that time in the market almost always beats timing the market and to first max out your 401k and IRA to the legal maximum then put percent of your age in bonds and the rest in an S&P mirror (so you at 34 would be 34% bonds, 66% zero/very low fee S&P mirror). I personally have more risk tolerance so I put almost nothing in bonds and put it in a BlockFi USD backed stablecoin interest account instead since the returns are much higher for something I view as low risk and still very liquid but that’s my own personal choice and certainly not something I recommend for everyone. You worked hard for your money so put it to use!

No, 2m NW, two kids and haven't hired a planner ever. They don't do anything special that I could use that i don't already know or do. If I needed a specific financial related service, I've used a professional and paid a flat fee for the service - like contract review, disability insurance from many years ago (I didn't pay anything directly, they got commision from the insurance company) and a real estate agent.

Got a few thousand dollars in commision to the builder back

I recently joined citi. I have been given choice for to select superannuation as 13% of BS or 12500/- monthly or zero.

This is one time selection and not reversible.

I am already investing 1.5 lakh in 80C through SIP and EPF.

I need more detail about superannuation and is it beneficial or not?

Also is there any retirement age in IT field 🤔 (or in citi)?

Subs! Internal subbing is draining the life out of teachers. The sub schedule comes out at the last minute bc of so many teacher absences. We’re all waiting for next sub. Teachers are late for their own classes. Students are in chaos with rotating subs. We pay $100 a day. Is the Solution in plain sight?

I just hit my lean fire number but am hesitating to pull the trigger, so was hoping to run it by people smarter than me:

- I have a few rentals that bring in ~$1800/mo cash flow, taxes are negligible, Capex incl.
- My paper assets will bring in ~$1200/mo at 3% draw
- I get free Healthcare at the VA
- No plans on kids
- My expenses haven't topped $30k/yr ever
- I could always reenter the workforce if needed (albeit probably not in consulting)

Please point out the flaws here, what am I missing?
