It should be a law, to be frank.
It would aid gender and racial equality in pay (it would be near-impossible for a company to backtrack from a posted salary). It would also help reduce ageism (because then the company would know the older person is willing to take that salary, rather than assume they’re out-of-budget).

For real!!!!!!!!
What?
Stop yelling.
Don’t tell me what to do. Also, have your hiring people but the salary range in the job posting.

Serious question, do you think all talent should be compensated the same?
Ideally, it should be a formula based on years of experience for the base pay, plus a little more for having awards, plus a little more for having relevant training, plus a wiggle room of 5% for negotiation. Then use bonuses for fine-tuning (eg. big ideas, dependability), but keep the reasons standardized and quantifiable to reduce the chance of bias. Use hiring bonuses for luring in star talent.
But this puts a burden on CDs to do more in-depth performance reviews. I personally would be OK with doing it, but realistically, very few would bother. It’s simply easier to just have the applicant fight for their worth only once in the beginning at the negotiating stage.
